New to Learn2Spin?

Hello there....

Learn2Spin is not a commercial site but was conceived purely for the author Jim Dobbs to prove to his first web design students that he could actually build a website!
It has since evolved into a resource site so I can access a wide range of my handouts remotely and also link to my other websites that perhaps demonstrate a particular technique or have something I want to show my learners.

There are links to useful sites and programs that you would not easily find on your own and are too important to miss. Please tell others about these sites.

Learn2Spin now has video tutorials that began as demonstrations of uploading files to my web server from teaching venues that would not allow FTP due to network restrictions and firewalls. These now have Photoshop and other subjects included.

I also run Powerpoint presentations over the web so this site fulfils all my needs no matter where I am teaching - as long as I have an internet connection. (Plan B is a CD with a copy of the site and Plan C is a 4GB memory stick).

Sharing
I have always shared my handouts with colleagues right from my teacher training days at Harrogate College and now with anyone who visits my site from North Yorks Adult Learning, York Council Adult Education, Askham Bryan College and others. Feel free to use the handouts and follow the links to the many sites out on the web which can help you learn all about HTML and Web Design.

Try the free programs mentioned as they are generally very good and the price is right.

I hope the site continues to be useful to all the past students I have met and still keep in touch with.
I am always happy to get emails asking how to sort problems and I will always try to announce any new teaching well in advance.

Of late, the site has got a bit 'scrappy' for want of a suitable word and the organisation is not brilliant.
I have well passed that 'point of no return' where it is unfeasible to try and repair the site and the only logical answer is to start again.
Web developers would refer to this as 'poor information architecture' and I should know better as I studied this in my Web Development course at LeedsMet

I may rebuild the site in the future but not now so it is as it is. I keep moving stuff around and I try to add something new every day.

At this point I feel I should show you my disclaimer and terms even though they have no legal standing as far as I am aware. (I modified this from another site so this is a general example of a typical disclaimer) See - still a resource even now.

Disclaimer

These web pages are produced by a freelance lecturer who works on an hourly-paid basis for colleges and training providers in the North Yorkshire area.
The views expressed are the author's own and do not necessarily represent the views of these providers. These web pages do not necessarily provide a comprehensive or complete guide to their subject matter and are intended to highlight general issues of interest.

Use of these web pages
I am happy for anyone to print off any web pages, Word documents or PDF that are included in this site for educational use if they written by me.

Copyright
Please be aware that not all the articles are written by the author and some are taken from online sites dealing with web issues on a current basis and have been converted into handouts for learners on web design courses. As far as practicable the handouts have a reference to the site and this is included so that learners can visit the site to subscribe themselves and learn more. I will leave the decision to reproduce these documents to the individual.

On a similar basis the images on this site are from copyright free sources or have been created by the author. However some high resolution images are from cover disks from various Photographic magazines purchased by the author. I have included these so learners can see the types of techniques possible and have indicated the link to the magazine website.

I am aware that this technically infringes copyright but I am also aware that I am not making any direct profit from this site and my teaching would be no different if this site were not available. The site is purely a resource for education and sharing of knowledge and is offered in the spirit of learning the craft of web design and digital imaging.

The author of this website believes in maintaining a strict standard of excellence in all of the material associated with this web site.
